Off Centre.

Photography by Alex Ingram
Here are two of the raw files from the Off Centre dance performance. I will post the edits that I like on my website at www.alexingram.com.
While I  shot 100's of pictures with fellow artist Lauryn Franklin, there were only several that I really liked! My favorite was definetly the photo in blue above, as it almost looks like the other dancer is the shadow of the girl.

The Stars.

Last night I got to attend the rehearsal for the dance performance titled "Off Centre" at CSUSM. I took Photographs for one of the Cal State Professors and enjoyed the performance and music. Some of my friends Greg, Joemell, and David were in the performance and I would encourage anyone to check it out if they have the time.
This song was used in the performance and reminded me how much I liked it so I thought I would share it with the world. If you are around the San Diego area check out the performance tonight at Cal State San Marcos at the Arts building at 7. The song is called "After Tonight" by Justin Nozuka. Pics will be up soon from the event.

Awards and Ceremonies

This last week of April has been packed full of awards and ceremonies all leading up to the big day! Graduation! Check it out! I received a stoll for my work in ASI at the ASI Alumni Ceremony from and an award for encouraging diversity and campus activity at the All Peoples Celebration. The ceremonies were great and packed with friends of mine from the graduating class, faculty that have helped through the years and many others.

Inspiring.

This commercial really inspires me! I one day hope that I can use art as a means to transform children's lives. I remember when I was a kid that I wanted to be an artist and even dressed as a painter several years for Halloween. After years of being told that I couldn't become one, I decided to follow a dream and become one and I feel it was one of the most important choices in my life. I hope one day I can inspire others to follow their dreams and use art as a therapeutic and positive medium in their life.

Positivity is Key.

My Professor, Deborah Small, recently asked me to come in and speak to her class to show my portfolio and speak a bit about life after CSUSM and Grad School. I was really honored that she had invited me and gave my told the class about how I approached things and gave a few tips about the process and how I went about things. My main point was that you have to rely on yourself to get things done, not let anything stop you, and strive to be the best! What surprised me was that people actually listened and cared about what I had to say! I guess I'm definitely not the same person that came into college, I have actually accomplished many things and am now in a position that I have some experience behind me. I really appreciated the class and all of their comments and questions. I especially thought it was cool talking to the homies Joemell and Andy about life after CSUSM and all of our goals. I think positivity leads to success to I try to keep that in my life and I feel these guys do the same. I feel it is so important for all of us to have good connections after college because one day we might all rely on eachother one day. If any students or fellow artists read this blog please shoot me an email with your blog and I will update my links to include your page! I have done this with several of my friends to keep current on their work and to learn more from them.
I'm really so proud of everyone and everything that I have seen accomplished through the CSUSM art department and I am very certain their are greater things to come.

On a side note I am in the process of updating my website and have added an updated biography and several new photos in a theatre section. More to come! check it out at www.alexingram.com

Yellow Swoosh.

There is something about a new pair of shoes that just makes you feel amazing. I've been through tons of brands in my day but nothing feels close to getting a new pair of Nikes. As a broke college student I have not bought a new pair of shoes in over 2 years. Or a least anything nice for that matter. I am proud to say today I got to go crazy and spend a bit out of my budget for something I like!
Next up is my NikeID!

When Life Gives You Lemons.

The film Lemonade which deals with issues regarding losing ones job in a failing job market will be showing at CSUSM on Tuesday April 27, 2010. This looks like a great movie and it is free to the public. I am hoping the director will be there for a Q and A.

One Two Freddy's Comin' For You.

The original Nightmare On Elm Street is definetly in my top 5 horror movies of all time and also introduced me my favorite actor, Johnny Depp. The idea your dreams being so real, that they actually determine your fate in real life is such a scary concept. And Freddy Krueger is such a deranged character. This remake actually looks pretty decent and looks like it is returning the roots of the series back to scary rather than the over the top comedy from Freddy we see in the later films. The only disapointment is the Robert Englund is not reclaiming the role as Freddy. The movie comes out next week so I'm hoping its as great and scary as the trailer makes it look!

Dinner For Schmucks.

This movie looks hilarious and has probably the two funniest actors out there in my opinion the great Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd!

Over.

The video I have been waiting for directed by one of my favorites in the game right now, Anthony Mandler! And dam the girl at the end of this video is so sexy!

Training Day.

Training Day in my opinion is truly a brilliant film. It really depicts the hard side of L.A. and take you into a whole different world that you may not even want to see or know exists. Denzel at his best! To see the nice guy go twisted is something to witness. I'm glad I got the chance to watch this again last night because it reconfirmed why I loved this movie when it first came out. Everything you can ask for in a film and more, plot wise and cinematically.

Other Peoples Love Letters.

I went to San Diego for a few things the other day and stumbled across this book. It literally made me laugh and cry! Its funny how love goes, and the things we say and how we feel when we are in it. Some letters we cute, some were sad, some are naughty. But all of them are a joy to read and guaranteed if you've ever been in love this book will remind you why you are or bring up a good memory or two!

Street Lights.

Seems like street lights
Glowing
Happen to be just like moments
Passing
In front of me
So I hopped in
The cab and
I payed my fair seat
I know my destination
But I'm just not there..

Voodoo.

This Spring Break I was set up as an alternate for the Habitat For Humanity Alternative Spring Break in New Orleans. Unfortunately I was not able to go because the person before me was able to get off work.  My co-workers were nice enough to get me a souvenir that I love! It is a voodoo doll and you can find more of the designers work by Jamie Hayes at www.jamiehayes.com
Hmm now I wonder if there is anyone I can think of that has done me wrong so I can test it out.
HAHAHAHAhahahahaha (menacing laughter) ; )

An Education

An education is basically about a young girl who is brilliant in every way but  falls for the wrong guy and  learns it the hard way. Typical young girl.
The beginning of the movie was done well, as you are thrust into this new world of excitement that the lead character, Jenny (Carrie Mulligan) is introduced to by smooth talking David. Its party, and dinner, and jazz in Paris, but you get the feeling that while Jenny may be having fun, it does not fulfill her. Its as if her own life is put on halt and she is to completely rely on David for everything.
I'm still upset by the end of the film however which seemed all to easy. I don't want to give anything away but it just seemed all to simple.Despite this it was overall a good film and the actors were really good for their roles. Id give it a B- rating. From some of the reviews I had heard I expected a bit more.
