On Set With Alasdair Mclellan

Hello Bloggers,
It has been a while since I have wrote but I would like to say I am back and sorry about the hiatus. I have been in the spectrum of a lot of big projects and with my Summer class coming to a wrap I would like to announce that I am officially back.

One of my most recent efforts have taken me on set with one of my favorite photographers Alasdair Mclellan as a Jr. Producer. This was one hell of an experience that put me in contact with some great people and friends like Anthony Turner and Aaron De May. I also got to chat on set with some of the greatest models in the industry right now such as Lindsey Wixon, Simon Nessman, and Cohl and Yuri. (My pic of Cohl and Yuri below)

This upcoming month will be great for me, working on thesis (ALL MODELS PLEASE MESSAGE ME AT ALEXINGRAMMEDIA@GMAIL.COM )getting a new apt, going to Cali for a couple of weeks, and starting the last year of my school career.

Would love to hear everyones comments.

-Alex

RETNA

Last weekend I went to the Retna art exhibition with some of my colleagues from ArtPartner. After seeing the Banksy film "Exit Through the Gift Shop" I have been inspired by the street artists for their renegade style and was happy to go. While there I got eh opportunity to meet some pretty big celebrities including one of my favorite entertainers, Chris Brown. I also met Rumi from fashion toast, Angela Simmons, and Rosie Perez. It was a great night!

Perfect ad

I know I'm late on posting about super bowl ads but this one is perfect. So American, pure, and honest. And I love the tagline, imported from detroit.

Art Partner

I recently received the internship I have been waiting to announce and now that its official I finally can!
I will be working for Art Partner in Soho. This is the internship I have wanted most and exactly where I want to be, so amazing for things to unfold the way that you envisioned, proving that with hard work, determination, and persistence dreams can come true. I will be working amongst some of my favorite photographers, videographers of all time such as Terry Richardson and Mario Testino working with agents, producers, and the film department.

Blue Valentine

“I feel like men are more romantic than women. When we get married we marry one girl. Cause we’re Resistant the whole way until we meet one girl and we think I’d be an idiot if I didn’t marry this girl she’s so great. But it seems like girls get to a place where they just kinda pick the best option...‘Oh he’s got a good job.’ I mean they spend their whole life looking for Prince Charming and then they marry the guy who’s got a good job and is gonna stick around.”

Bear with me on my writing here, but I wanted to post this while it was still fresh on my mind. I have heard the buzz from Blue Valentine for such a long time and finally got a chance to watch it last night. If you heard the hype about the acting, and how good it is then you heard right. Both actors were perfect for the part and play so well together in love that it is painful to watch their fall from grace. Sort of the classic case of guy who loves girl and girl who doesn't know what she wants. I read a critique the other day that basically said a great film, great acting but a hard one to view again or recommend and I think that is entirely true. This film will do all of the following, make you remember good feelings, bad feelings, the high points of love and the mundane but overall I think it was truely worth viewing expect to see them both up for the Academy Award.

Did you see it? What other movies do you recommend?

VIDEO SHORT

This is a short I had to make for class titled "Unlucky'. I only had a day to shoot it and cut and narrate it and was able to churn out this rough cut of the project. When I get a chance I would like to cut it shorter because it drags on in several scenes but check it out!
Of course during the making of Unlucky my laptop broke. Luckily its almost Christmas.

Alex Bag.

My video teacher referred me to the artist Alex Bag and her work has really inspired me. Like me she teeters the line between fine art and commercial art. The piece I have been most interested in is called Untitled Fall 95' which documents the fake story of an SVA student over the course of their studies at SVA. It is hilarious because it reminds me so much of people that I know. She starts out as a fun and happy art student willing to learn who is slowly sucked into the New York art scene and becomes a pretentious snob who overlooks her professors, fellow students, etc all to eventually leave art entirely and work at a coffee shop. Throughout the piece she also segways between the art student confessional with references to other New York types, and bad experiences with odd teachers and men.
I like this piece because it is still relevant in 2010 and accurately describes many of the students in the art culture and a youth culture that refuses to grow up and is then forced too.

Watch the whole piece here. If your an artist as well I'd love to here what you think.

Brooklyn Museum

If your in the area I definitely urge you to check out the Brooklyn Museum. I went today with class and it has many great contemporary works dealing with all sorts of topics such as feminism and race. We had to go for a variety of artists but most specifically to see the intricate work of Fred Tomaselli.

Google is Everything.

I got the opportunity to head over to the Google Headquarters for my Digital Art in Context class where we got to meet Digital Artists who have combined Science with Art for their work. It featured the work of Eduardo Kac(the most controversial, but also the most interesting in my opinion), Marina Zurkow, and Andrew Senior/Sandra Cordero. Eduardo spoke about his work with Alba the rabbit, something I have learned about in both Science and Art during my undergrad. I think it is very cool that a huge company like Google is doing this event and I hope to attend more.
