Nathaniel Goldberg.

Great Photographer. The work of Nathaniel Goldberg. Be sure to catch his work on the cover of the new April 2010 cover of GQ featuring Shia Labeouf. The pictures combine proffesionalism to the fullest with classic style, which produce stunningly debonair photographs.

Catch Me If You Can.

I just watched this movie again last night, and forgot how amazingly awesome it was. I think because I had seen it when I was 14 I couldn't fully appreciate the coolness of Leo living a life of crime. This movie has everything, great actor, (Leo + Hanks) and great art direction right down to the 60's style.
This opening scene to me is as iconic as the opening to a Bond movie.

Pursuit of Happiness Take 2.

KiDCuDi.tv: Cudi Feat. MGMT & Ratatat - Pursuit of Happiness (Alternate Version) from DatNewCudi / DP on Vimeo.
I love the Pursuit of Happiness video that Cudi released with Drake, but this one hands down has gotta be one of the illest videos i've ever seen. The inventiveness qualities are almost Gondry-esque and I think it really fits the song. Thanks for putting this up on your blog and vimeo Cudi! Pursuit of Happiness, TAKE 2.

Photography. Upcoming Musical.

These are a few of the pictures I took today for an upcoming musical at California State University San Marcos. I am doing an independent study in photography for my professor, Judy Bauerlein, and this is my project for the it, as well as producing flyers for the musical. I got the opportunity to work with the cast today, and direct the shoot. I worked with group poses as well as individual headshots for every actor doing a range of emotions, from happy to sad. The photos seen below are from the sad bunch.
Stay tuned for a lot more work from this project, details about the play, and much more.

Latino Film Festival. Ander.

Went down to San Diego to the Latino Film Festival for my Chicano Arts class at CSUSM and saw the film Ander. The film was basically about a middle aged farmer named Ander who sprains his ankle and begins to fall for the new worker (Jose).
The film did a good job with the silent moments in the film. For example, when working on the farm Ander would often retreat to a peaceful location on the hilltop overlooking the beautiful scenery. These moments really helped the audience feel the tranquility that Ander felt.
Overall I would rate this movie a 6.5/10. While the acting was good and it was filmed well the love story was not very gripping and the length of the film dragged on a bit long.

Lofty

Lofty from Alex Ingram on Vimeo.
This is the animated short film titled, Lofty, that I helped create as a part of the 2009 CSU Summer Arts Program. Under the direction of Trevor Tuttle and Rick Vertolli, me and a group of select students selected for the program worked as a production team using Maya to create this short piece. I specifically worked with texturing objects and helped in the motion capture studio.
In the class we learned how to key-frame character animation, motion capture, direct actors, work with camera movement, lighting, and 3D rendering animation.
Unfortunately due to time constraints the video was not completely finished, however it still contains some great work!

Reverse Cowgirl.

TPain is either a musical genius, or one lucky mo-fo. Some say he ruined music by bringing back autotune others think its amazing. I dont really stand on either side of that debate, but I think this video is dope. I feel like music videos especially in hip hop are being revolutionized. They look so much more visual and conceptual instead of seeing the cliche of a bunch of guys in chains in front of cars with video girls. I feel like this video fits perfectly with the song and the colors are amazing, especially how the reds pop.
And the girl at 2:36 is hella fierce! Great model!

Nothin on you.

When I first heard this song I knew it would be a hit. The artist B.o.B. seems to have a different style and I like the words in the song. This video is great. I love the cut out like animation and the girls in the video aren't the typical over exagerated women typically seen in rap videos, they are more down to earth, real, and beautiful.
Beautiful girls, all over the world, that I could be chasin but my time would be wasted, they got nothing on you!

San Marcos Fitness Roundup.

For my job/internship I have am the photographer for many events hosted at Cal State San Marcos and throughout San Diego County. Many of these photographs and columns that I write alongside them are published in the Steps Magazine(CSUSM alumni magazine), The North County Times or used for various publications for CSUSM. I love this job! As I wrap up this last school year, I will post some of the pictures on here from my recent events, so they are not just sitting around on my hard drive. I will choose 3-4 images to represent the event.
These photographs are from the First Annual San Marcos Fitness Roundup which was an 11K run throughout San Marcos that ended at CSUSM. The event brought the community together leading in a run that inspired fitness from the young to the eldery. The proceeds from the event went to the CSUSM athletic department!

The Making of Lofty.

This is the making of Lofty documentary that I helped film during a 2 week course in Fresno where I helped to create an animated short called Lofty. Fresno was basically hell for me, but there were some pretty cool things and got to meet a lot of cool people. Our director Trevor Tuttle actually got a call from Tim Burton while I was there to help with Alice in Wonderland! I also got to meet Chuck Harvey, a classic animator for Disney who joked around with us! At 4:35 in the documentary you can see a sketch he made for me of the late Michael Jackson and I also had him make a drawing of me and old friend.
You can find me in the video at 2:17 haha!
I will post the actual animated film next week. It never got finished because of time constraints but pretty amazing to see what can be accomplished in such a short time.

Rude.

I am really not a big Rihanna fan, but this video is so sick! The colors are wild and the whole video just reminds me that summer is coming and bright colors are going to start coming back which I am very ready for.

One of the funniest skits I have ever seen!

This was on Kimmel a few nights ago. I have suprisingly been watching more of his late night since the firing of Conan. This isn't a typical posting for me but damn this is funny!

Oscar Buzz 2.

Carrie Mulligan.
So here is my vote for best dressed. I thought her dress was age appropriate and made her look chic, elegant, and youthful. And I loved the adornment of embellishments around the top full of scissors. Dope. Now on a recomendation of my trusted film colleague I will have to go check out her movie An Education.

And Best moment of the Oscars definitely goes to Ben Stiller and his hilarious portrayal of the Na'vi.
I liked the dance sequence also. I swear the song from Up is so enchanting as it slows. I link the song to what happened in the movie, and it honestly brings a tear to my eye every time.

Great night at the Oscars.

Oscar Buzz 1.

This post is coming to you live as my initial response to the Academy Awards. I'm so happy for everyone that was nominated and to all of the winners. While my vote was cast for Avatar for best picture, I had the incredibly inspirational, and beautiful Kathryn Bigelow set for best director. This film blew me away. It reality is so hard-hitting and it is incredibly well filmed. Thank you Kathryn Bigelow for proving to me and inspiring me yet again to go against the odds and do what you love! She is the first woman to win the award and that is so cool! CONGRATULATIONS!  If you get a chance make sure to check out the Hurt Locker. Amazing film.

Contra. Not just for Nintendo.

Washington, DC Snow Storm from Es Video! on Vimeo.
I had a feeling once That you and I Could tell each other everything For two months
I think that this video is beautiful. It reminds me of growing up in the snow. Snowball fights, snowmen, sledding. I think is really shot beautifully, I like all the smiles on the peoples faces. Everything feels so genuine. And while I'm not sure the lyrics to the song fit the video the flow of the music fits perfectly. And I really like this band Vampire Weekend and love the words of the song, I Think Your A Contra.

I cant wait for Alice.

The anticipation for this movie is killing me. Love the Tim Burton and Johnny Depp collaboration, especially in Ed Wood. This movie looks like your gonna be thrown into an entirely imaginative new world and not want to leave it. I'll give my opinion on here tomorrow when I get a chance to see it. Right now I am just super eager for it!

Video Inspiration

"КУБИКИ" from cuccumberass on Vimeo.

As an admitted addict to Vimeo I come across amazing videos on the daily. But this one really stood out to me. While I cannot understand the language, it sounds beautiful. And the visuals blow me away. It is shot in black and white, which as you can tell from some of my work on the page and the color of my blog, is part of my own visual aesthetic. And the textures and choice of objects in the short are rather intriguing. I would describe the feel of it as eerily beautiful.

Caulfield Preparatory

VHMV9K4KT4Z4

The newest issue of GQ has a section full of the top designers to look out for and the work of Vincent Flumiani was chosen for his label
Caulfield Preparatory. Out of all the designers his work stood out to me with a freshness to it. It has a preppy feel, but with an edge. An the cut look amazing, everything is just as slim as it needs to be. Bold patterns are mixed with solids to make eye catching designs full of vibrant colors. It almost seems like it is not from Los Angeles but at the same time has a Southern California feeling.
